As the US announced deepening of its involvement in Afghanistan by despatching 30,000 more troops, President Barack Obama has quietly authorised an expansion of war against terrorism in Pakistan under which CIA would widen its campaign of strikes against militants by unmanned drones.
The expanded operations by the CIA could include drone strikes in the southern province of Baluchistan, where senior Afghan Taliban leaders are believed to be hiding, New York Times reported today quoting officials.

At a covert forward operating base run by the US Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) in the Pakistani port city of Karachi, members of an elite division of Blackwater are at the center of a secret program in which they plan targeted assassinations of suspected Taliban and Al Qaeda operatives, "snatch and grabs" of high-value targets and other sensitive action inside and outside Pakistan. The Blackwater operatives also assist in gathering intelligence and help direct a secret US military drone bombing campaign that runs parallel to the well-documented CIA predator strikes, according to a well-placed source within the US military intelligence apparatus. The previously unreported program, the military intelligence source said, is distinct from the CIA assassination program. "This is a parallel operation to the CIA," said the source. "They are two separate beasts." Blackwater's presence in Pakistan is "not really visible, and that's why nobody has cracked down on it," said the source. Blackwater's operations in Pakistan, he said, are not done through State Department contracts or publicly identified Defense contracts. "It's Blackwater via JSOC, and it's a classified no-bid [contract] approved on a rolling basis. Some of these strikes are attributed to [the CIA], but in reality it's JSOC. So when you see some of these hits, especially the ones with high civilian casualties, those are almost always JSOC strikes."

The White House has authorized an expansion of the C.I.A.’s drone program in Pakistan’s lawless tribal areas. More C.I.A. drone attacks have been conducted under President Obama than under President George W. Bush. The political consensus in support of the drone program ... and its secrecy have obscured just how radical it is. For the first time in history, a civilian intelligence agency is using robots to carry out a military mission, selecting people for killing in a country where the United States is not officially at war. The drone warfare pioneered by the C.I.A. in Pakistan and the Air Force in Iraq and Afghanistan is the leading edge of a wave of push-button combat that will raise legal, moral and political questions around the world, said P. W. Singer, a scholar at the Brookings Institution and author of the book Wired for War: The Robotics Revolution and Conflict in the 21st Century. So far, only the United States and Israel have used the planes for strikes, but that number will grow. It is impossible to judge whether the program violates international law without knowing whether Pakistan permits the incursions, how targets are selected and what is done to minimize civilian casualties.

President Obama will maintain a lid of secrecy on millions of pages of military and intelligence documents that were scheduled to be declassified by the end of the year. The missed deadline spells trouble for the White House’s promises to introduce an era of government openness, say advocates, who believe that releasing historical information enforces a key check on government behavior. They cite as an example the abuses by the Central Intelligence Agency during the Cold War, including domestic spying and assassinations of foreign officials, that were publicly outlined in a set of agency documents known as the "family jewels." The White House has given the agencies ... an extension beyond Dec. 31 of an undetermined length - possibly years. It will be the third such extension: Clinton granted one in 2000 and Bush granted one in 2003. The documents, dating from World War II to the early 1980s, cover the gamut of foreign relations, intelligence activities, and military operations. The records in question are held by the Central Intelligence Agency; the National Security Agency; the departments of Justice, State, Defense, and Energy; and other security and intelligence agencies. None of the agencies involved responded to requests for comment. Steven Aftergood, a specialist on government secrecy at the Federation of American Scientists in Washington [said] "If binding deadlines can be extended more or less at will, then any new declassification requirements will be similarly subject to doubt or defiance."

In spring 2007, as one of many American air travelers who were inconvenienced when our names popped up on a federal "watch list," I never could get straight answers from my government. Was this a mistake, or was I being flagged for some reason? How many Americans were on that watch list? What were the criteria for getting on it? I filed my appeal with the Department of Homeland Security's Travel Redress Inquiry Program (TRIP). The Department of Homeland Security received 75,315 requests for redress under the TRIP program as of Oct. 31. Of those requests, 49,826 have been adjudicated, 7,217 are under review, and 18,272 are awaiting supporting documentation, according to the DHS. "Absolutely, the system didn't work as well as it should have," said Suzanne Trevino, a spokeswoman for the Transportation Security Administration. Once an airline receives a passenger's control number, along with full name, date of birth and gender, that information is transmitted to the government for clearance. Fewer than 2,500 known and suspected terrorists are actually on the "no fly" list, according to Trevino. And less than 10 percent of them are Americans. [Yet] the FBI's Terrorist Screening Center has acknowledged that its watch list has more than 1 million entries of names and aliases representing about 400,000 people [with] with an average of 1,600 people who presented a "reasonable suspicion" being added every day.

America is being asked to spend trillions on a theory, some of whose foundational data has been destroyed, allegedly for a lack of storage space. If the data cannot be reviewed, it cannot be trusted, scientifically.

The gory photos of male polar bears devouring cubs, dragging shredded carcasses around and creating a bloody mess on the white snow of Canada's North have caused a stir on the Internet and in reports that link the activity to climate change.
But cannibalism among the species is a natural occurrence, says one expert, disputing what is just the latest story to put the polar bear in the debate over man-made global warming.
"Both Inuit and scientific knowledge show that cannibalism in polar bears happens, and it probably always has," said Steve Pinksen, director of policy and legislation for Nunavut's Department of Environment.

Lundi 7 décembre 2009 s'ouvrira la conférence de Copenhague. Organisée par la Convention-cadre des Nations Unies sur les changements climatiques (CCNUCC), elle regroupera les 193 nations membres, plus d'une soixantaine de chefs d'Etat et nombre d'institutions internationales et d'organisations non gouvernementales qui tenteront de trouver un accord et de nouveaux objectifs pour poursuivre les efforts (modestes) engagés en 1997 lors de la création du Protocole de Kyoto. Ratifié par 175 pays (tous sauf les Etats-Unis...), il viendra à expiration en 2012. Les participants auront deux semaines pour s'entendre sur un nouveau chiffre de réduction pour les émissions de gaz à effet de serre, et surtout sur la répartition des efforts entre les pays riches et les pays pauvres.
De nombreux chefs d'état seront de la fête, y compris le président des Etats-Unis, M. Barack Obama, qui, à la surprise générale, a même annoncé fin novembre des objectifs chiffrés : une réduction de 17 % des émissions de gaz à effet de serre d'ici 2020 par rapport au niveau de 2005. Cette annonce a déjà été jugée insuffisante par les mouvements écologistes qui ont demandé aux Etats-Unis de faire plus d'efforts. En réponse, Washington s'est dit prêt à s'engager sur 30 % de réduction en 2025 et 42 % en 2030. Quasi simultanément, Pékin dévoilait ses propres chiffres : une réduction de 40 % à 45 % de son « intensité carbonique » (émissions polluantes par unité de PIB) d'ici 2020 par rapport à 2005, soit un objectif beaucoup plus ambitieux. Par ailleurs, l'Union européenne s'est engagée sur une réduction de 20 % et s'est dit prête à aller jusqu'à 30 %.
Les scientifiques, par la voix du Groupe d'experts intergouvernemental sur l'évolution du climat (GIEC), estiment qu'une réduction de 25 à 40 % d'ici 2020 par rapport au niveau de 2005 est indispensable pour contenir l'élévation de la température à moins de 2 degrés, chiffre au delà duquel les dérèglements climatiques vont s'aggraver de manière irréversible.
Les responsables onusiens restaient pessimistes jusqu'à l'annonce surprise des objectifs chiffrés des deux plus gros pollueurs de la planète.
Comme pour mieux préparer le public à ce sommet qui promet d'être le plus médiatisé de la planète, nombreuses ont été les sorties de livres et de films promettant le chaos - sinon l'apocalypse -, confirmant ou infirmant la réalité du réchauffement climatique. Puis, le spectaculaire piratage du serveur du prestigieux centre de recherche sur le climat de l'université britannique d'East Anglia, avec la mise à disposition du public d'une sélection de courriels qui prétendaient montrer que les scientifiques manipulaient les données. Tout cela aura fait long feu : quelles que soient les tentatives de désinformation des climato-sceptiques, il est indéniable aujourd'hui que les activités humaines contribuent pour une part non négligeable à l'augmentation de CO2 dans l'atmosphère, et de ce fait, entraînent un réchauffement global de la planète.

Il y a bien des trous et des inexactitudes sans les connaissances qui nous sont transmit à l'école et à travers les médias corporatifs et étatiques.

Et encore une fois, le temps est en train de montrer que nous avions raison de nous méfier de cette affaire du réchauffement climatique. Les gens vont vous traiter de climato-sceptiques, de théoriciens du complot, vont insister sur les sources fiables, mais ne vont jamais s'interroger sur les sources mêmes et documents fondateurs du mouvement environnementaliste et de la thèse du réchauffement climatique anthropologique alors que les documents existent et sont disponibles à tous, comme l'Agenda 21 du Club de Rome, sur lequel se base les politiques de l'ONU en matière environnementale.
Il faut aussi voir les noms des rédacteurs de ces documents. Vous allez avoir des surprises!
Mais que voulez-vous, les gens sont paresseux intellectuellement et n'ont pas l'honnêteté de pousser leur recherche un peu plus loin que leur conditionnement leur permet. Ils croient ainsi "sauver la planète" et se donnent un sentiment de valorisation personnelle leur donnant l'impression de faire de quoi pour sauver l'environnement, sans savoir si ce qu'il font est vraiment pertinent et basé sur des FAITS réels et de la science FIABLE.
Comment vérifier ces prédictions du GIEC et cette science du climat, qui va avoir un impact incroyable sur nos vies et économies avec ces taxes sur le CO2, si les données de base ayant servit à ces calculs ont été falsifiés ou simplement détruit par les scientifiques de l'Université de East Anglia?
Moi, je suis seulement un gars comme vous autres. Je suis juste scié de voir qu'un gars comme moi, avec pas de budget ni d'équipe de journalistes professionnels, peut arriver à trouver ces informations qui méritent d'être étudiées publiquement avant de prendre des décisions sérieuses, et de voir que les médias en général ne sont même pas capables de nous apporter et d'analyser objectivement.
Ces informations soulèvent des questions totalement légitimes et bien-fondées. Pourquoi faut-il qu'à chaque fois que la population commencent à se poser de bonnes questions qui mériteraient vraiment qu'on prenne le temps de répondre, on vous traite de paranos, de conspirationniste et de nono qui trouve ses information sur le Net?
Quelle condescendance incroyable. Je suis un peu tanné qu'on nous prenne pour des caves qui ne savent plus réagir lorsque que quelque chose d'important se passe. Nous sommes beaucoup plus qu'on le pense à penser ainsi, et à être informés.
Les ingénieurs sociaux savent utiliser notre coeur et notre humanité contre nous. tout le monde veut aider à protéger l'environnement, tout le monde aime la nature, les animaux et un monde propre, non pollué. C'est évident. Alors en créant une fausse crise environnementale (alors qu'il en existe des encore plus criantes, urgentes et réelles, directement causées par l'homme, avec 0% de doute sur ça), tout le monde se sent concerné, et ça devient un problème global qui appelle une solution globale, LEUR solution globale.
Créer une instance mondiale avec une force policière pour faire appliquer ses lois et taxes qui va transcender nos souverainetés nationales, mais qui sera gérée par des gens non-élus et sur lesquels nous aurions AUCUN pouvoir.
La grande question est QUI sera à la tête de cette toute puissante organisation mondiale? Probablement ceux qui financent, ceux qui ont écrit l'Agenda 21 et qui a fondé les principes de la thèse du réchauffement climatique causé par l'homme, des Sommets de la Terre, de ceux qui veulent imposer une taxe sur le CO2 et qui vont profiter de la Bourse du carbone, un autre hedge fund, pyramide de Ponzi.

CRU relied on 8 papers linking tree ring growth to temperatures in historical times. However, these papers were full of errors despite being approved by the (now known to be compromised) peer-review process.
These papers and indeed the entire CRU methodology was to express tree ring thickness solely in terms of temperature while ignoring or minimizing the effects of variations in water availability, nutrients, disease patterns, and the fact that increased CO2 would trigger more robust plant growth even though the actual temperature might remain constant or even decline.

This is a very subtle piece of propaganda.
This story and several others like it are trying to place the focus (and blame) for the Global Warming Hoax onto the scientists caught rigging the data. And yes, those scientists who sold out scientific method and their honor for a grant are guilty and have not gotten half the kicking around they deserve.
But in our haste to toss mud at those clean white lab coats, let us remember the golden rule of science; he who has the gold makes the rules.
So, the real culprits are the politicians and power brokers and investors; the NON-scientists, who bought themselves a crisis to use to trick the people of the world out of their money and their freedom, THESE are the real villains!
And in true villain style they are looking to offer up their hired help as sacrificial lambs for the slaughter in order to save their own sorry asses.

People are talking about the emails being smoking guns but I find the remarks in the code and the code more of a smoking gun. The code is so hacked around to give predetermined results that it shows the bias of the coder. In other words make the code ignore inconvenient data to show what I want it to show. The code after a quick scan is quite a mess. Anyone with any pride would be to ashamed of to let it out public viewing.

Although the majority of the attention around ClimateGate has focused on emails exchanged between CRU scientists, the real smoking gun proving deception and fraud can be found in the code of climate models which prove that temperature numbers were “artificially adjusted” to hide the decline in global warming since the 1960’s.
Attempts on behalf of the establishment media to characterize the scandal as “rancor” amongst scientists completely obfuscates the real issue, which is the fact that man-made climate change proponents gamed their data models to make them produce the results they wanted.

Professor Hans von Storch, who is referred to in very unflattering terms several times in the leaked emails, points out that the CRU scientists acted as “gatekeepers”.

Are sunspots changing and will that take us to an Ice Age?
With 690 spotless days so far in this minimum as of June of this year, that is hardly outside of the range of previous minimums but it ain't over and there is no sign it will be anytime soon. The characteristics of the sunspots are unusual and don't look good to this interested lay person. Is this a lead in to a Maunder Minimum type Little Ice Age or is this the beginning of the big one? Time will tell.
The big story here is not the characteristics of sunspots changing but rather the changing tenor of the professional scientific community to stand up for true scientific debate that has been suppressed for so long. Far too long, in my opinion.

So, if the sun stays quiet for a few more months we will begin to rival the activity of the sun in the early 1800s. It was the last time the earth has experienced such low solar activity and the result was dramatic global cooling referred to as the Dalton Minimum .

'Quiet Sun' baffling astronomers
The Sun normally undergoes an 11-year cycle of activity. At its peak, it has a tumultuous boiling atmosphere that spits out flares and planet-sized chunks of super-hot gas. This is followed by a calmer period.
Last year, it was expected that it would have been hotting up after a quiet spell. But instead it hit a 50-year year low in solar wind pressure, a 55-year low in radio emissions, and a 100-year low in sunspot activity.
According to Prof Louise Hara of University College London, it is unclear why this is happening or when the Sun is likely to become more active again.
The sun's cooling down - so what does that mean for us?
Most scientists believe humans are the main culprit when it comes to global warming, and Weiss is no exception. He points out that the ice remained in Europe long after solar activity picked up from the Maunder minimum. For the past two decades or more, we have heard much about the global warming of the 20th century being caused by the rise in atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration that is generally attributed to anthropogenic CO2 emissions. This story, however, has always been controversial [see Smagorinsky et al. (1982) and Idso (1982) for early pro/con positions on the issue]; and with the retrieval and preliminary analysis of the first long ice core from Vostok, Antarctica -- which provided a 150,000-year history of both surface air temperature and atmospheric CO2 concentration -- the debate became even more intense, as the close associations of the ups and downs of atmospheric CO2 and temperature that were evident during glacial terminations and inceptions in that record, as well as in subsequent records of even greater length, led many climate alarmists to claim that those observations actually proved that anthropogenic CO2 emissions were responsible for 20th-century global warming.
University study: CO2 levels remained constant since 1850
A central tenet of “climate change” dogma holds that increased emissions (2 billion tons a year in 1850 to 35 billion tons a year now) leads to greater CO2 levels in the atmosphere. But a new study from the University of Bristol could shake up traditional assumptions. The study suggests that CO2 levels have remained constant since 1850.
According to the University, “The results run contrary to a significant body of recent research which expects that the capacity of terrestrial ecosystems and the oceans to absorb CO2 should start to diminish as CO2 emissions increase, letting greenhouse gas levels skyrocket.” In fact, the trend in the airborne fraction has only been 0.7 ± 1.4% per decade (essentially zero).

NASA Study Acknowledges Solar Cycle, Not Man, Responsible for Past Warming
While the NASA study acknowledged the sun's influence on warming and cooling patterns, it then went badly off the tracks. Ignoring its own evidence, it returned to an argument that man had replaced the sun as the cause current warming patterns. Like many studies, this conclusion was based less on hard data and more on questionable correlations and inaccurate modeling techniques.
The inconvertible fact, here is that even NASA's own study acknowledges that solar variation has caused climate change in the past. And even the study's members, mostly ardent supports of AGW theory, acknowledge that the sun may play a significant role in future climate changes.
