Pearl Harbor: The Latest Wave

Video: Chinese Soldiers Shoot Tibetan Pilgrims

Vraiment triste.

Summit forges military ties in Central Asia

SHANGHAI -- The prospect that China, Russia, India, and Iran would form a quasi-military alliance that includes most of oil-rich Central Asia advanced last week at a regional security summit, heightening concerns of an emerging anti-US bloc.

Leaders of the six-member Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which includes China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan, embraced a Chinese-led plan during the summit to increase military cooperation and discussed a Russian proposal to create a regional ``energy club" that would exclude the United States.

The SCO also indicated it would soon invite Iran, India, Pakistan, and Mongolia -- nations that have observer status in the organization -- to become full members.

These folks know that the current actions of the US have to do with the control of the region's oil for military operations.
And I would be willing to guess that many of the people hammering out this agreement are chess players. The folks in Washington are behaving like very bad poker players, who play with consistent bad judgement of their hands.

China Easing Its Stance On Taiwan

BEIJING -- Gradually and without fanfare, China has substantially softened its stand on Taiwan, according to senior officials and diplomats. President Hu Jintao, they said, has begun to play down China's long-standing vow to recover the self-ruled island by force if necessary and shifted the focus to preventing any move toward formal independence.

Uncovering the Truth about the Death of David Kelly

Dr David Kelly In 2003 Dr David Kelly was found dead in the woods. Caught in a political vortex, Dr Kelly had been forced to appear before a televised government committee investigating whether he had accused British government figures of planting in a dossier the questionable claim that WMDs could be unleashed from Iraq in 45 minutes.
The Hutton Inquiry concluded that Dr Kelly took his own life. But did he? The KELLY INVESTIGATION GROUP takes a closer look....

TRIBUNAL HAD A MOTIVE FOR MILOSEVIC'S MURDER

Written by: Mr. N.M.P. Steijnen
Even if it is proven beyond reasonable doubt that Slobodan Milosevic was not murdered as the result of direct violence that still does not morally or legally absolve The Hague Tribunal, or its officers, of direct responsibility for his death. Since the beginning of his trial Milosevic suffered from severe health problems. Therefore, it would not be difficult for malicious interests within the Tribunal to forecast that he could be liquidated without making a direct attack on his life, which could bring with it the risk of leaving forensic evidence.

A series of actions intended to undermine his health would be sufficient to ensure that he would die sooner or later. These actions combined with medical negligence and the extreme stress put upon him by the working conditions imposed by the Tribunal would be a certain recipe for his demise.
Therefore, in the Tribunal’s interests, this approach would be far preferable to a blunt direct liquidation.

Convincing Evidence that Milosevic's Health was Deliberately Undermined

At this moment there is no evidence that Milosevic was murdered directly, but there is substantial evidence that he was killed indirectly.
The history of medical negligence is already well documented, just like the enormous pressure imposed upon him by the Tribunal’s working conditions.

Afrique

A Warning to Africa: The New U.S. Imperial Grand Strategy

Imperialism is constant for capitalism. But it passes through various phases as the system evolves. At present the world is experiencing a new age of imperialism marked by a U.S. grand strategy of global domination. One indication of how things have changed is that the U.S. military is now truly global in its operations with permanent bases on every continent, including Africa, where a new scramble for control is taking place focused on oil.

Somali President Says U.S. Backs Warlords :

US opens new war front in North Africa

Despite a setback in Somalia, where anti-Islamist warlords recently lost control of the capital, Mogadishu, to a jihadist militia, the United States is plunging into a far vaster set of commitments, stretching across the "Wild West" of Saharan Africa.

Congo's tragedy: the war the world forgot

In a country the size of Western Europe, a war rages that has lasted eight years and cost four million lives. Rival militias inflict appalling suffering on the civilian population, and what passes for political leadership is powerless to stop it.
This is Congo, and the reason for the conflict - control of minerals essential to the electronic gadgetry on which the developed world depends - is what makes our blindness to the horror doubly shaming. Johann Hari reports from the killing fields of central Africa

Panel Faults Pfizer in '96 Clinical Trial In Nigeria

The panel said an oral form of Trovan, the Pfizer drug used in the test, had apparently never been given to children with meningitis. There are no records documenting that Pfizer told the children or their parents that they were part of an experiment, it said. An approval letter from a Nigerian ethics committee, which Pfizer used to justify its actions had been concocted and backdated by the company's lead researcher in Kano, the report said.

Russian bombers flew undetected across Arctic

The commander of the country’s long-range strategic bombers, Lieutenant General Igor Khvorov, said the U.S. Air Force is now investigating why its military was unable to detect the Russian bombers. “They were unable to detect the planes either with radars or visually,” he said.
As Bush pushes forward into war with Iran, which in turn could lead to war with Russia, here is a little news item that will keep you awake at night.
During a recent war game, Russian bombers were able to fly across the arctic into Canada and carry out four simulated missile attacks against the US without being detected by NORAD and the US Air Force.

Solzhenitsyn breaks last taboo of the revolution

Nobel laureate under fire for new book on the role of Jews in Soviet-era repression

Alexander Solzhenitsyn, who first exposed the horrors of the Stalinist gulag, is now attempting to tackle one of the most sensitive topics of his writing career - the role of the Jews in the Bolshevik revolution and Soviet purges.

In his latest book Solzhenitsyn, 84, deals with one of the last taboos of the communist revolution: that Jews were as much perpetrators of the repression as its victims.

Two Hundred Years Together - a reference to the 1772 partial annexation of Poland and Russia which greatly increased the Russian Jewish population - contains three chapters discussing the Jewish role in the revolutionary genocide and secret police purges of Soviet Russia.
